Mason Mount finally got to see his three year old niece - CTN News

After England's World Cup game, Mason Mount finally got to see his three-year-old niece for the first time.

With the Three Lions' World Cup victory against Iran, Chelsea and England player Mason Mount was able to spend time with his older sister and meet his niece for the first time.

As if England's resounding opening World Cup victory wasn't enough, Mason Mount also got to meet his niece for the first time in Qatar, giving him even more reason to celebrate.

Chelsea's midfield maestro played all but one minute of England's 6-2 thrashing of Iran on Monday. Mount's happiness was compounded immediately after the final buzzer when he was able to hold 3-year-old Poppy in his arms.

Stacey, his older sister, resides in Australia and gave birth to his niece more than three years ago, but the 23-year-old has not seen his extended family because of his demanding football schedule and the stringent travel requirements in place.

At the start of the week, Stacey and Poppy reunited in Qatar, where Stacey had traveled to watch her brother play for England. Mount was all grins as he embraced the young girl, who was sporting her uncle's name on the back of a Three Lions shirt.

After England's resounding victory over Iran, coach Gareth Southgate encouraged his players to spend time with their loved ones in the fans. Mount was so overjoyed to see Stacey that he high-fived some of the other kids in the room.

Stacey posted these cheerful photos to Instagram with the caption: "What a day it was when I finally got to witness my little brother and Poppy meet their uncle Mason after 3 1/2 years! I have no words to describe how happy I am to be an older sister like you. After all these years of effort, we've finally succeeded."

Mount made his England debut in 2019, and since then he has played 34 times, scoring five goals. He was instrumental in the Three Lions' run to the final of Euro 2020 in the summer of 2021, where they ultimately lost on penalties to Italy.

The aggressive midfielder had a great game in England's opening World Cup win over Iran, but he and the rest of his squad had a tough time in the boring 0-0 draw with the United States on Friday night. The Three Lions are in good shape in Group B and can look forward to Tuesday's match against Wales with confidence in advancing to the round of 16.

Mount has been a member of Chelsea's roster since 2005. He has made 181 appearances for his childhood club, scoring 32 goals while helping them to the Champions League title last season. He supports Together for Short Lives, an organization working to improve "quality of life and end of life for children with life-limiting and life-threatening diseases."
