A conservation effort in the Kentish countryside has resulted in the birth of a bison calf, which has been praised by Leonardo DiCaprio.

In July, as part of a rewilding effort, European bison were let loose in certain wooded areas close to Canterbury. The goal of the initiative was to assist in returning the environment to its natural form.

Bison clean undergrowth, which paves the way for the growth of other plants and insects. In addition to this, they strip the bark off of conifers, which makes it possible for native species to thrive, and the fur that they shed can be used as an insulating substance by birds that are nesting.

The Kent Wildlife Trust and the Wildwood Trust are in charge of the rewilding project that is taking place in West Blean and Thornden Woods. These woods make up one of the most extensive tracts of ancient woodland in the United Kingdom, and some of their trees are more than a thousand years old.

Mark Habben, the director of zoo operations at Wildwood Trust, was quoted in the post as saying that it was difficult to conceive "anything could come close to the happiness we felt" when the bison took their first steps just a few weeks ago.

He continued by saying, "But here we are celebrating the arrival of a bison calf."

DiCaprio, who is a spokesman for the United Nations on the issue of climate change, has contributed millions of dollars to various environmental organizations and was present at COP26 in 2017.
