Johnny Depp's friend calls Amber Heard a "belittling opportunist"
Doug Stanhope accused Amber Heard of "f***ing with" Johnny Depp's head after his mother's death.
Depp sued his ex-wife for $50 million defamation after she said she was a domestic abuse survivor in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed. Depp wasn't mentioned.
A jury found Heard defamed Depp in June and awarded him $10 million. Depp was ordered to pay $2 million to Heard, who sued for $100 million, claiming Depp's attorney defamed her. Both sides are appealing.
Heard and Depp accused each other of domestic abuse during their high-profile trial. Both deny the charges.
Stanhope, a comedian, addressed Depp's mother's death in May 2016 and Heard's divorce filing days later in his book No Encore for the Donkey.
Stanhope wrote of Depp: "His wife, Amber Heard, seemed to be f***ing with his head again, I assume using his weakness to manipulate him even more, and harder."
Amber was Johnny's placator. The marriage's cruel dysfunction was nothing you haven't seen with your own friends, if not yourself.
Stanhope continued, "Someone close to you in an abusive relationship who won't admit it or, if they do, will blame it on another circumstance or themselves and keep getting worse."
Stanhope said it was "almost inconceivable" that Johnny Depp or anyone so famous could be depressed.
"That someone of his stature would have to tap dance on the hour to avoid s**t and vitriol was disheartening," he wrote.
Heard accused Depp of domestic abuse after 14 months of marriage.
In June, she sued Stanhope for defamation over a website article that The Wrap published. He accused Heard of fabricating domestic abuse claims.
Heard said Stanhope "orchestrated a plot to write an article" that falsely accused her of "blackmail" and other criminal behavior towards Johnny Depp, from whom she is seeking a divorce, People reported.
By September, three weeks after Depp and Heard's divorce settlement, Heard dropped her suit against Stanhope.
