Brendan Fraser was moved to tears by 'The Whale's' standing ovation.

Brendan Fraser became emotional when he was recognized for his role in Darren Aronofsky's latest film.

Brendan Fraser cries.

The 53-year-old actor appeared visibly moved at the world premiere of The Whale Sunday at the Venice International Film Festival.

Video of the standing ovation shows Fraser raising his hands and placing them on his knees.

He also hugged director Darren Aronofsky "several times during the ovation," according to Variety.

This made him stay longer, said the outlet.

Fraser described the "undulating feeling" of playing 600 lb. Charlie before the film's premiere Sunday.

"It's poetic that his trauma manifests in his physical weight," he said before the film's premiere. "I had to move differently. I discovered hidden muscles. When all the appliances were removed at the end of the day, I felt vertigo, like stepping off a boat onto the dock in Venice.

"He gave me an appreciation for those with similar bodies because I learned you must be physically and mentally strong to inhabit one. Fraser added, "I think that's Charlie."

Fraser told Vanity Fair he wanted to learn "what he was capable of"

"Without risk, why bother?" saying "I want to learn from my coworkers now." In the second half of my career, I want to feel like I'm contributing to and learning from the craft.

"It's a great chance." I wanted to vanish. Fraser hoped to be unrecognizable.

Fraser carried 50 to 300 extra pounds during filming, according to Aronofsky, 53. According to the outlet, the movie takes place in his home over five days.

A24 released the first photo of Fraser as Charlie, a reclusive writing instructor who struggles to reconnect with his daughter, Sadie Sink.

Fraser's last leading role was 2013's Breakout. He's appeared on Doom Patrol, The Affair, and Trust. Fraser was set to play the villain in the HBO Max Batgirl film before its August cancellation.

Screenplay based on Samuel D. Hunter's play. The 2012 off-Broadway production won a Drama Desk Award, a Lucille Lortel Award for outstanding play, and a GLAAD Media Award.

Hunter told Deadline last year that adapting his play was a labor of love. "This is a deeply personal story, and I'm glad it will be shared."

The Whale opens Dec. 9.
