Mariah Carey among targets of home invasions | CTB NEWS

Mariah Carey, a star on the show "Real Housewives," is among the people whose homes have been broken into.

According to a new indictment, a gang committed a series of burglaries, and some notable public personalities and celebrities were singled out as the intended victims of these crimes.

On Monday, the office of the Fulton County District Attorney in Georgia issued a 220-count indictment, which revealed that 26 gang members in Atlanta had been charged with carrying out a number of home break-ins and burglaries. The charges were made public by the office. According to a report by a local news station, WSB-TV, the list of victims includes a significant number of high-profile targets despite the fact that it also includes a large number of victims who are just inhabitants of the area.

The district attorney named some of the victims, including the pop superstar Mariah Carey, a cast member from the television show Real Housewives of Atlanta named Marlo Hampton, an Atlanta Falcons wide receiver named Calvin Ridley, and a soccer player for Atlanta United named Brad Guzan.

The indictment details a total of sixteen separate incidents dating back to 2018, all of which were committed by members of the gang. According to reports, the men in question are members of the Crips-Bloods hybrid gang known as "Drug Rich." They are facing charges under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, which is more often referred to as "RICO." In addition to murder, house invasion, kidnapping, burglary, aggravated assault, theft by receiving, terroristic threats, and false imprisonment, the gang is accused of a number of additional crimes as well.

At a recent news conference, the District Attorney for Fulton County, Fani Willis, stated that "as we all know, crime and criminals have no boundaries," and that "they made their way into my country," which is Fulton County. "I have a message for you today: If you believed Fulton County was a nice county to bring your crime to, if you thought Fulton County was a good county to bring your violence to, you were incorrect.

It was discovered that members of the gang have been using social media posts to target wealthy people of Atlanta beginning as early as 2017. More recently, on June 27 and July 1, respectively, burglars broke into the homes of Carey and Hampton in Sandy Springs. Carey's home was broken into on June 27. Hampton's home was broken into on July 1.

Willis explained that the individuals that are targeted are those who flaunt their wealth on various social media platforms. "This indictment also encompasses persons who were not as prominent, but who likewise flaunted their wealth on social media... Unfortunately, these gangs have become more sophisticated and more knowledgeable in how they target victims. While it can be sort of fun to put your goods on social media and show it off, this is how they are targeting victims. However, as they've become more knowledgeable, so have we."

A single chaotic event that took place in 2021 is the source of a significant number of the allegations that are detailed in the indictment: 88 in total. During the break-in, the members of the gang are said to have dragged a girl who was 16 years old out of the shower and forcefully threatened her if her mother did not give them valuables.
