Brad Pitt's Make It Right Foundation agrees to fix faulty homes for $20.5 million.

Positive intent. Brad Pitt is making amends for the damage he caused by constructing substandard housing for Hurricane Katrina victims, and he's using a formidable environmental nonprofit to help him right the wrong.

In 2018, a lawsuit was filed against Pitt, now 56, and his Make It Right Foundation over housing they had built in New Orleans after the deadly 2005 storm. After nearly four years, the actor has finally settled with Global Green for $20.5 million to fix the problems.

'I am tremendously appreciative for Global Green's willingness to step up and provide this crucial support for the Lower Ninth families,' the Bullet Train star said in a statement to Us Weekly on Thursday, August 18. We worked together immediately after Katrina, and it has been a great blessing to have Global Green's ongoing generosity in tackling the issues facing these and other vulnerable households.

A source told Us that Pitt joined the recovery initiative at the outset "with the best intentions," contributing millions to the effort to build the homes that eventually sold for roughly $150,000. After he handed over operational control to his foundation, however, it became apparent that they were unable to provide adequate housing.

The homeowners subsequently filed a lawsuit against the Lost City star and his accomplices, saying that the homes were badly constructed and afflicted by a variety of problems such as mold and structural damage.

According to the source, Pitt "promised to find the best solution" to the problem by working out a deal with Global Green to help provide capital to the homeowners, despite initially petitioning to be removed from the suit on the grounds that he should not be held responsible for the actual construction of the project.

The settlement has not yet been approved by a judge, but once it is, the remaining cash will be distributed among homeowners based on the relative quality of their properties.

On Thursday, the World War Z actor told Us, "Hopefully this arrangement will allow everyone to look ahead to further opportunities to continue to grow this strong community."

Together with Brian Tyree Henry and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who also play assassins, Pitt may currently be seen in Bullet Train. While on board a speeding train, the three discover that their missions are related in some way. Based on the novel Maria Beetle by Ktar Isaka, the action flick also stars Joey King, Sandra Bullock, and Bad Bunny.

The Oklahoma native said earlier this month on Good Morning America, "[My character is] obviously the chump of the story, which is really good fun to portray." He's been to treatment, read his self-help book, and now he's ready to deal with sociopaths in a new way.

He continued, "I take great pride in my work. Simply said, I'm having more fun than ever before. Simply said, I am happy with my decisions. Walking onto set, there have been times when I've thought, "Man, I'm lucky to be here."
